Poster Riot: 32 Years of Performances at the ÍøÆسԹÏ

For 32 years, the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Center has been home to countless artists, presenters, friends, and supporters of the performing arts. The exhibition includes show posters from the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï archives and plus posters from partner organizations including Lyric Theatre Company, Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Vermont Stage Company, UVM Lane Series, Higher Ground, Burlington Discover Jazz Festival, and others. Come in and revisit your favorite memories of performances at the ÍøÆسԹÏ, with an opportunity to share them on video.
Restoration of the ÍøÆسԹÏ—a hallmark of Art Deco design and architecture—began in earnest on July 1, 1981. The dramatic comeback convinced citizens that the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï was a viable and vital community resource.In its first five years, the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï hosted more than 350 performances presented by 50 different organizations, including longtime allies in the arts whose partnerships with the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï continue to this day: Lyric Theatre, Vermont Symphony Orchestra, the Vermont Youth Orchestra, and the UVM Lane Series.
In 2000, the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï "reopened" as a comprehensive performing arts center, renamed the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Center for the Performing Arts. ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Center incorporated two performance venues—the original theater, fully restored to its Art Deco splendor, and ÍøÆسԹÏSpace, a small performance setting that significantly expanded the ÍøÆسԹÏ's programming options. ÍøÆسԹÏSpace has provided a home for the Vermont Stage Company and became the community's venue of choice for intimate live theater, performance art, jazz, acoustic music, comedy performance, and more. Patrons now enjoy an expanded ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Center that includes beautiful education and dance studios housing year-round ÍøÆسԹÏArts classes in music, theater, and dance for children and adults; a greatly enlarged main theater lobby; a visual arts gallery; and additional administrative and support spaces.
